How to Add a Pocket
May 22 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm CDT$25
If you’ve ever found yourself frustrated with the complete lack of functional pockets in your clothing, you’re not alone! In this workshop, you will learn how to create basic side pockets and install them into your garment of choice. This technique can be applied to dresses, skirts, and pants with a relaxed fit (sorry, no leggings). Bring your favorite garment in need of a functionality upgrade, and leave with a new skill you can apply to the rest of your wardrobe.
A selection of fabrics will be available for use, but participants are more than welcome to bring fabric from home if preferred. All necessary tools for this class will be provided, but participants may bring any preferred sewing supplies if desired.
Madison Durant is a seamstress, designer, and business owner living in Kansas City, MO. She has been sewing for 13 years and sewing professionally for 6 years. Madison began her journey into the world of fashion in 2014 when she was a runner up on Lifetime’s hit series “Project Runway: Threads”. She went on to exhibit collections in fashion showcases and trade shows in Kansas City, Omaha, and Chicago. After experiencing firsthand just how wasteful factory garment production can be, she turned her attention to the sustainable future of clothing, and found a problem she made it her mission to solve: pockets. Durant’s business, Thanks, It Has Pockets!, uses an ecommerce based, remote service model to add pockets to customers’ clothing using 100% repurposed fabric. An avid traveler and adventure seeker, Madison focuses on sustainable practices in every area of her life in the hopes of preserving the natural world she has come to know and love.”
