In the beginning...

ScrapsKC had already diverted over 12 tons of materials from the landfill by the time it launched in September 2016.

We know that there is more than one way to use an object. Our store is filled with unique and colorful materials just waiting to be creatively reused.

Education

green dotted line

We believe that education reaches far beyond the classroom and new things can be learned everyday through experiences. We teach creativity by providing an unusual array of materials for children to interact with and share unique ways to creatively reuse scraps. Experiencing the West Bottoms and it’s history is another opportunity for learning. Learning how to serve the homeless and bringing our materials into your home, churches and classrooms are other ways for families to learn together.

Homeless Renewal

ScrapsKC is honored to be able to provide opportunities for the homeless of Kansas City. We hope to grow our resources and support network to employ our homeless volunteers as soon as possible, and play a part in their renewal as they strive to be contributing members of our community.

Provide volunteer opportunities

Homeless volunteer manpower to maintain and improve ScrapsKC and clean and repurpose donated school supplies for redistribution to classrooms in disadvantaged communities.

Feed them homemade meals

In exchange for their hard work, our homeless volunteers receive a homemade meal, in addition to dignity and survival items to help them get through another day.

Share with them on the streets

ScrapsKC also works directly with the homeless on the streets and excess dignity and survival donations will be shared with those in dire need.
